Animalia album release party in Pasadena Sept. 8

New local band called ANIMALIA will hold an ALBUM RELEASE PARTY for their latest release called CATMANDEU on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 7:30 pm. The party and performance will take place at PORTICOS ART SPACE located on the campus of the St. James United Methodist Church at 2033 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91104. Tickets are $5.00. Doors open 30 minutes before show time.

ANIMALIA is an up and coming group local to the Pasadena area and their music can best be described as "SURFANOVA" with a unique fusion between surf music and Latin jazz. The album, CATMANDEU will be available via digital download only and the evening will consist of a performance by ANIMALIA showcasing songs from the new album plus performances by two other local bands BLUE THUNDER and HIDDEN HIPPO.

In 2010, ZACH MEJIA casually wrote songs for numerous friends and sent them out via facebook. One of these songs caught the attention of his best friend, ESTEVAN PALOMINO. It was then that Estevan proposed the idea of starting a band to Zach. The song, "BARBERSHOPS", would go on to be the bands first official collaboration. Between the two of them, the friends played seven instruments and further collaboration ensued. After a brief writing period, the duo released their first EP, NIMROD'S SON, in the summer of 2010. Further developing their sound, the group began incorporating elements of surf, jazz, pop, and rock music. Although beginning as an instrumental band, their upcoming debut album, CATMANDEU, is the bands first work to include vocals. Catmandeu further exemplifies the bands desire to showcase different genres while still maintaining their own sound. The album is due for release summer 2012.
