End o' Week Musings

I am sooo relieved to have survived this week and be heading into the weekend!

Friday I went to Knott's Halloween Haunt. It was a lot of fun. I'm a little strange I guess because I was more amused by the mazes and ghouls than scared. I always enjoy looking at all the details put into the decor and costumes. I caught "The Hanging Show" too and it never fails to amaze me how terrific the stunts are- one mistake and someone could get hurt for real!

The only letdown of the evening was the mine ride because we were barely on our way when something was obviously wrong. The lights were turned on and our train slowly made its way back to the station, where we were let off. I decided against going back, as seeing everything in the light ruined the fun... oh, well...

I would highly recommended partaking in the Boo-fet if you go to the Haunt, as it gives you a break from the crowd and a place to sit while you eat. And the food- wow! There's so many yummy things it's hard to choose- Knott's famous chicken, sushi, prime rib, Mexican food, Italian dishes and more. The desserts are not only tasty, but festive. I enjoyed a red velvet cupcake with a Snoopy ring that I wore the rest of the night. If you're of age, you can also have beer, wine or a cocktail- I had my usual vodka tonic and a large glass of water.

For the best admission price, you need to go to the Haunt early in the season. You should also look around for coupons and special offers. For more information visit http://www.knotts.com/

Saturday was devoted to errands and shopping with my mom. And on Sunday I took my friend Byron to see "South Street" at the Pasadena Playhouse (http://www.pasadenaplayhouse.org/ ). I'll be honest and tell you that the play itself is a little weak. It has obvious plot lines and unsurprising characters. Yet, if you like good theater, I can still recommend going to see the musical, as the actors are very good, the dancing is top-notch and the music and singing is great. The cast is almost too good for the production and were able to take a ho-hum script and make it sparkle. It was still a lovely evening and time well spent.

Tuesday, I interviewed Robin Givens, who will be in the Playhouse's next show, "Blues for an Alabama Sky." I was very impressed with Givens, as she is sweet, smart and funny. I could see us hanging out and chatting over a cup of coffee. The play sounds interesting too.

The highlight of my week was Wednesday when I was in a parade at the LA County Fair. My mom spent the day with me there and we checked out Mojo's Jungle, the Flower Pavilion, the Big Red Barn, Jurassic Planet and other exhibits. Then I donned one of my belly dance outfits and made my way to the parade kick-off spot.

I was put on the barn float with the Fair mascots and the community hero for the day. My job was to throw beads to the crowd as we drove along. After the parade, the mascots all gave me a hug. First was Thummer the pig, next Daisy the cow and then Peter Rabbit. Peter Rabbit was extra friendly and didn't want to let go. It was kind of nice because he was soft and furry, but kind of strange because he's really just a person in a bunny suit. Peter Rabbit is one friendly bunny!!

The LA County Fair ends Sunday, so if you're in the mood for fried everything and lots to see and do, make plans now.

Today, I was thrilled to see my story on Glen Campbell noted on the front page of my newspapers- San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star-News and Whittier Daily News. You can also check it out online at http://www.sgvn.com/

Tomorrow I have a special show with Ad Hoc Consort. We will be playing music for a church's anniversary dinner. I also get to dance with my swords! It should be a nice evening.

In rotation this week: Driftwood Fire, Viva Girls and Dave Morrison.

Photos we got 'em: The usual animal photos from the web.

Thought o' the week: Flow with the change. Change is tough, especially when you have no control over anything. How you react is your choice- you can either resist and fight or go with the flow. What you need to decide is how important your stance is and how it will affect your life.

I have a few things changing in my life right now that I can't control. At first it was stressing me out and I was having trouble sleeping. Finally, I have decided to let go and not worry about things. I know some of the stuff may come back to haunt me later, but since I cannot control what's happening now, I'm not even going to think about the later part unless it happens.

Yes, worrying about what may happen is futile. Your time would be better spent doing just about anything else.

In addition to letting go, I'm also recounting the things in my life for which I'm thankful. It brings me some peace. And if you could send me some good karma, keep me in your prayers or whatever you do to ease other's woes, I would appreciate it. We all go through tough times in our lives and I'm merely facing another one of those times-- it will pass and I will survive. But first I have to flow with the change.

Keep on rockin'

Scott E. Prior paintings in Pasadena Nov. 5

American Legacy Fine Arts will present a collection of landscape and still life paintings that capture images of daily life on the dwindling number of California’s small family-owned farms and ranches with the exhibition Scott W. Prior: Recollections of Rural California. The display will be on view at the private gallery in Pasadena from Nov. 5 to Dec 10, 2011.

A reception with the artist will be held on the opening day of the exhibition from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

With these new works, the 42-year-old Southern California artist, who is best known for his thought-provoking urban landscapes, wants to call attention to the ever-increasing number of family-owned farms being lost to the urban sprawl that he has witnessed during his lifetime. He was drawn to the images of bountiful crops and tools for harvesting, which were far more commonplace during his childhood, as hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland have since been supplanted by office complexes, mini-malls and housing tracks.

“Scott W. Prior’s impressionistic style coupled with his desire to paint the reality of everyday life have resulted in a collection of paintings that brilliantly depicts the ongoing challenges generations of farmers and ranchers have faced with the urbanization of rural California,” said ALFA Director Elaine Adams. “The artwork in Recollections of Rural California represents pure Americana, as it pays homage to California’s rich agricultural heritage,” noted Adams.

American Legacy Fine Arts is located in the tranquil Pasadena neighborhood near the world-famous Rose Bowl. Gallery hours are by appointment 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Art enthusiasts interested in viewing the exhibition may schedule appointments by either calling (626) 577-7733 or emailing info@americanlegacyfinearts.com. The exhibition may also be viewed at the gallery’s Web site, www.americanlegacyfinearts.com.

Steve Shiffman & the Land of No to release new EP

This summer, Steve Shiffman & the Land of No embarked on a project to release an EP every three months, culminating in a full vinyl album. The first EP, "Death & Love", made the waves and seduced the critics. For many, it was an introduction to the band's spirited pursuit of vintage songwriting, veritably blurring the lines between lo-fi and classic -- "a rough and ragged alt-country workout" that "sits comfortably alongside the best of the genre" (Now Toronto) while also adding some "enjoyable indie guitar rock with some great melodies" (The Deli) that references The Velvet Underground and Big Star. As promised, the band delivers here with the second EP of the series, "Nemegt Uul", which includes a limited release of the song "Never Know What to Say," recorded by Juan Pieczanski.

Steve Shiffman cut his teeth with the local Toronto trio 4-Star Movie before moving to New York City. It was there he met up with bassist Kent Heine and guitarist Alec Ferrell from The Holy Ghost, guitarist Dave Hollinghurst from Chapel Hill pioneers Small 23, and NYC crooner Nicole Atkins. The group started to slowly build buzz as Steve Shiffman & the Land of No and developed "one of the best live shows in the business" (GO211.com). In 2009, Steve Shiffman & the Land of No released their self-titled debut album on Tiny Beast Records. In 2011, they embarked on a project to release an EP every three months, culminating in a full-length LP to be released on vinyl by Later Records. This concept has been called a “great idea” by Buzzlegoose.com, adding that “with its gritty music and sincere vocals, SSTLN has essentially turned us all into audible addicts who are craving the next fix." Sinister Girlz agreed that “there’s no denying that this rock group will make a big splash in the alternative indie rock scene once they ultimately release their full-length LP."

The first of these EPs, "Death & Love", came out on July 19th. The second EP, "Nemegt Uul", will be released on November 1st, followed by the third EP on February 7, 2012. Finally, the full-length album will be released on April 24, 2012, and it will include the 9 songs from the previously released EPs as well as additional new tracks. To help execute this aggressive release schedule the group has added new drummer Aaron Kant, who has worked with both Michael Stipe and Patti Smith.

About LYDIA:

There are moments in the underground music community, when a band becomes something beyond its creator. It can communicate to an audience, deeper than any one person's verbal explanation or interpretation. It's something personal, and becomes something sacred. Great art is never literal, and usually left open for interpretation. With Lydia, that is exactly what has kept the phenomena alive....Lydia is not a person, but a feeling. They communicate in a dialect that defines the soundscapes they paint. The connection to their audience is a bond that can't be broken or dismissed. When Lydia found themselves at a crossroads in 2010, their fan base is what brought the project back together, and pushed them forward. Swarms of fans with Lydia tattoos, showed up to their sold out farewell tour. Something special had happened, beyond what anyone expected.

Leighton Antelman started Lydia in 2003, and after years of growth, experimentation, and discovery, they were finally ready to release their first record. The band had released This December, It's One More and I'm Free in September of 2005 on local indie, HourZero Records. Lydia spent a few years fine tuning their line up and writing what would be their most critically acclaimed release, illuminate recorded and produced my Matt Malpass (Copeland, All Get Out). The record was originally released by Linc Star Records in 2008. The buzz and online marketing caught the attention of Universal/Motown Records. Six months after the storm that was illuminate, the band signed a deal with the major label. After running through the machine, Lydia found themselves at another crossroads. The band had been in the studio working on their follow up to illuminate, and discovered they were heading in different directions creatively. As the tensions mounted, band members decided to leave due to these creative differences, leaving Lydia with 3 members, Leighton Antelman, Steve Mcgraw, and Craig Taylor. Lydia parted ways with Universal/Motown in late 2009 and wasn't sure what to expect. All they knew was that they had new material, and didn't want to disappoint their fans.

The band decided in 2010 that they would formally disband. They chose to release an EP of new material, titled Assailants, and head out on a farewell tour. With past members unable to tour, Leighton and Craig decided to put together a band to take out on their last run. Leighton decided to pick up the guitar again and pushed forward with the tour that appeared to be entirely sold out. Lydia independently released Assailants on this tour, and discovered that their fan base had grown immensely. The reception they received and the quality of the performances outweighed the gloom of it being their "Farewell". After witnessing a very strong reception from crowds on the other side of the Pacific in Australia, Leighton realized this would be a very difficult thing to leave behind.

Leighton and Craig returned home from Australia, and began working on new songs. After much debate, realization, and late nights they decided to bring Lydia back to life.... They went back into the studio in the summer of 2011 with Matt Malpass, and started to record their follow up to Assailants, titled Paint it Golden.

Sometimes it's difficult to let go of something that is personally sacred- when you have the energy of thousands of people unwilling to let go, you realize that you can't either.

Dave Morrison at Caltech Oct. 8

I will be playing The Beckman Auditorium at Caltech Oct. 8. This is kind of a big deal. I've been there to see some of the greats, and I've wanted to play there for a long time.

It's a big room, seats about 200, and also a really GOOD room for music. The seats rise steeply and wrap around in a crescent, so there is not a bad seat in the house. Good sound system too, with a pro at the dials. I'll have Greg Krueger with me on stringed things, and maybe Chad Watson on bass.

We are sharing the bill with Small Potatoes, the great duo out of Chicago. They are one of the finest, most polished acts in all of acoustic music, main-stage performers at festivals all over, and two of the warmest, funniest people I've been privileged to meet along this convoluted road. You will love them. www.smallpotatoesmusic.com

The show is produced by Nick Smith and the Caltech Folk Music Society. 8pm, Saturday Oct. 8. Tickets are available in advance from the Caltech Ticket Office: 626-395-4652. $15 for adults. $5 for kids.

Korn to release new album

Korn announced today that they will release their tenth studio album, The Path of Totality on December 6. But this is unlike any Korn record. It's even unlike any record released before.

The Path of Totality is an experimental album which finds Korn shifting gears and exploring new territory. That should hardly come as a shock to the band's diehard fans, as Korn exploded onto the scene in the'90s and established themselves as hard rock game changers from that point on.

For The Path of Totality, the band collaborated with some of the leading dubstep and electronic producers in the world, including Skrillex, Excision, Datsik, Noisia, Kill the Noise, and 12th Planet. The result is something completely new, yet utterly and definitively Korn. Leave it to a band like Korn to continue to reinvent itself two decades deep into its career.

"The title The Path of Totality refers to the fact that in order to see the sun in a full solar eclipse, you must be in the exact right place in the exact right time," Korn frontman Jonathan Davis explained. "That's how this album came together. I think all the producers feel the same way. I'm not sure it could ever happen again."

The band's recent (and much lauded) collaboration with dubstep's hottest producer, Skrillex, titled "Get Up!," was the surprise rock hit of the summer, the buzz of which started in Coachella's dance tent in April 2011, when Jonathan and Munky joined Skrillex on stage for a show stealing unannounced performance of the song.

That performance generated the start of a deafening buzz. The track has sold over 150,000 downloads, while the lyric video has generated nearly two million views and counting. The song was a top 10 rock radio hit.

Added James "Munky" Shaffer: "Get Up" started as a bit of an experiment, but we had such an amazing response from our fans and had such a great time collaborating that a full album of tracks came together in a couple of months. We couldn't wait to get to the studio every day to finish the next song."

Some of the song titles from The Path of Totality are: "Narcissistic Cannibal," "Burn the Obedient," "Illuminati," "Kill Mercy Within" and "Chaos Lives In Everything."

The album will be released in two configurations: as a standard 11-song CD and a special edition CD that will include bonus tracks as well as a DVD of The Encounter, a full-length video concert of Korn's mind-blowing, once-in-a-lifetime performance in the middle of a 900-foot long crop circle in a wheat field in Bakersfield. The complete concert, previously seen last year on TV and online in an abbreviated form, will be offered in its entirety to those who purchase the deluxe version.

Additionally, today Korn announced that the first leg of their "Path of Totality (P.O.T.)" tour will play key ballrooms and feature dubstep DJ's Datsik and Downlink, as well as young upstart Dutch Dub-rockers Dope D.O.D. Expect a groundbreaking experience unlike any other Korn tour.

Tickets to some of the shows go on sale this weekend to the general public, but pre-sale and brand new VIP packages are available starting Wednesday at noon ET exclusively at korn.com.

Slipknot to release 'Iowa' anniversary album

It's been 10 years since Slipknot unleashed its second album, Iowa, on the world. Slipknot had impacted the music scene in revolutionary, unpredictable ways, and established themselves as a way of life for their fans with their 1999-released, self-titled debut. But Iowa was the album that further proved the band had fully arrived and had no intentions of leaving. It was the band's statement that that they would continue to make music their way, according to their rules and always for their fans, with their middle fingers raised to the rest of the world.

To celebrate the album's decade of existence, the band is releasing a special, tenth anniversary edition of this landmark release, which will drop on November 1, 2011.

Grifter releases new album

Captain Zen Beyond has called them "the best classic rock band around" and the album "brilliant without any weak points." The Obelisk says they "sound like fans of 70's rock creating their own riffs and grooves to universal appeal." Classic Rock Magazine has seen their brand of irreverent rock to be fitting enough for one of their cover-mounted compilation CD's. Grifter has taken the world by storm with their new self-titled album of gritty, blues-based biker rock and you need to know what the fuss is all about! Available now through the Ripple Music Store and available world-wide on October 3rd through Clearspot International in Europe and Code 7 Distribution in the UK, Grifter is the album that will fuel every high-octane weekend party and chase away the doldrums of everyday life!

This eleven track album is the band's first full-length effort with indie rock label Ripple Music, however, Grifter’s unique one-foot-in-the-gutter, sleaze rock sound first appeared on the Ripple roster with their dual contribution to the Heavy Ripples, Vol. 1 compilation released earlier this year. To fill out 2011, Grifter will be performing numerous shows throughout England, as well as preparing for a tour of UK and parts of Europe for 2012.

Warner Bros. launches social series on Facebook

Warner Bros. Digital Distribution (WBDD) today announced the first-ever "social series" from a Hollywood studio will debut on Facebook starting October 18. Consumers can now become part of the show by seamlessly integrating their profile information - including photos, text and friends - by simply opting into the application on the show's Facebook page. The action comedy series "Aim High" produced by Warner Premiere and Dolphin Entertainment, staring Jackson Rathbone ("Twilight"), Aimee Teegarden ("Friday Night Lights"), and Greg Germann ("Ally McBeal") will debut as the first "social series" October 18 through Facebook (www.facebook.com/aimhighseries ) and Cambio.com.

By choosing to watch "Aim High" in a personalized viewing mode through the show's Facebook page, viewers will be able to see themselves or their friends integrated into select scenes throughout the series - from their photo appearing on a student body election poster, to having their name seen as graffiti on the bathroom wall. This video application not only allows consumers to have an immersive and engaging viewing experience, but also a social one where they can share comments, scenes and Tweets about their favorite moments from the show.

"Facebook is an increasingly influential destination for discovering and acquiring movie and television content," said Thomas Gewecke, President of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. "This effort takes video distribution to a whole new level by making the actual viewing experience personal and social in a truly innovative and entertaining way."

"The ability for fans to become part of a production by simply watching a show is truly revolutionary," said McG, Producer of "Aim High." "I'm delighted that Aim High is the first to embrace this technology and I'm looking forward to including this in future productions."

Lunch signs with Mightier Than Sword Records

Brooklyn, NY’s Mightier Than Sword Records has signed Worcester, MA indie rock outfit LUNCH and will be releasing the band’s self-titled digital EP on October 11.

The digital EP from the self-described “pop wizards from an alternate dimension” will be up for pre-order in the Mightier Than Sword webstore http://store.mtsrecords.com starting on October 11 for $3.99 and available through all digital retailers worldwide on October 11. A limited edition t-shirt bundle will also be available in the MTS webstore.

LUNCH recorded their first song somewhere in the midst of a bender in January 2011. Ben, Bill, and Rob did their best to wake Danny up of the floor of a friend’s bathroom to record his guitar parts, which he still does not remember. The band heard their song a few days later, and decided to keep the bender going and the songs coming. They called in a few favors (indie darling DOM produced and provides guest vocals on the song “Disappear”), banged out a few songs in their rudimentary practice space, and prepared their first EP. Cheap food, cheap beer-- LUNCH lives the pool life, and want nothing more than to compose the perfect soundtrack to their non stop party. “Chugga-chugga CHOO CHOO” Hop aboard, hope you’re hungry!!!

LUNCH “self-titled” tracklisting:

01. Turn Around

02. Narragansett

03. Disappear (feat. DOM)

04. Mimosa

05. Ellen

LUNCH’s “Disappear” (featuring DOM) is now streaming on the band’s Facebook page. Have a listen at: www.facebook.com/Lunchhh.

Nothing compares to the flavor of food that is grown in healthy soil, without pesticides, and allowed to grow until just the right time for harvesting. Square foot gardening uses only 20% of the land space of a conventional garden and saves both water and time. There is no tilling of the soil so anybody can do it. This method will be fully explained so you may create your own square foot garden, with lessons on setup, planting, watering, growing vertically, pest control and harvesting.

The Rolling Stones coming to a movie theater near you Oct. 18

Multi-platinum rock `n roll band, The Rolling Stones will transport their legion of fans back to the magical summer of 1978 in The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas, a one-night in-theater concert event on Tuesday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m. (local time). Unveiled for the first time in more than 30 years, this rare, never-before-seen concert was captured live in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 18, 1978. Digitally re-mastered to HD with Cinema Surround Sound, this legendary footage includes a mixture of classic Stones hits such as “Brown Sugar,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Tumbling Dice,” paired with blues numbers and Chuck Berry covers, as well as songs from the then newly released Some Girls LP including fan favorites “Beast of Burden” and “Miss You.” This tour has never been released via broadcast, cable television or DVD before. The special event will also include an exclusive 20-minute interview with Mick Jagger filmed in August 2011 where he reflects on the fabled 1978 U.S. tour, which is widely believed among fans to be one of the band’s greatest tours and strongest musically.

Presented by NCM Fathom, More2Screen and Eagle Rock, tickets for The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

“Fort Worth was an amazing night in a blistering hot July,” said Jagger. “Watching it now, the band was really intense and focused, but we were also having a blast with the fans who were really getting into the show and the new tracks from Some Girls. I think our fans will love the chance to see this concert movie for the first time on the big screen.”

The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live From Texas will be broadcast to more than 300 theaters nationwide through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. Fathom and Eagle Rock also teamed up for the highly successful cinema presentation of Ladies & Gentlemen… The Rolling Stones in September 2010, which featured classic Stones performances from their 1972 tour.

Formed in London in April 1962, The Rolling Stones consists of members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood. Having released 22 studio albums in the United Kingdom (24 in the United States), nine live albums (10 in the U.S.) and numerous compilations, their worldwide sales are estimated at more than 200 million albums. Their most recent album of entirely new material, A Bigger Bang, was released in 2005. In 1989, the Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2004, ranked No. 4 in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked the Rolling Stones at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Top All-Time Artists, and as the second most successful group in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“It simply doesn’t get any bigger than bringing The Rolling Stones to music fans across the country,” said Dan Diamond, senior vice president of NCM Fathom. “Well-preserved for more than 33 years, audiences will be spellbound by this incredibly rare concert footage as it flawlessly captures the band during one of its most musically riveting periods.”

Brian Setzer Orchestra holiday showDec. 17

The Brian Setzer Orchestra will bring their Holiday-themed “Christmas Rocks! Extravaganza” show back to Gibson Amphitheatre on Saturday, December 17th for what is perennially the “don’t miss” Christmas event of the year! For the first time ever, the evening will also feature a special set by Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot!!

The Brian Setzer Orchestra’s swinging take on Holiday classics has become a hallmark of the season. In a review of the group’s most recent “Christmas Rocks! Extravaganza,” the Los Angeles Times wrote that Setzer, “peppered ‘Angels We Have Heard on High’ with tasty jazz chords… [and] injected ‘Run Rudolph Run’ and ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ with a jolt of early-rock electricity.”

Setzer has played over 130 Christmas concerts to date for more than 300,000 fans, and sold over 1 million Christmas CDs – including The Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Rocks! collection -- and DVDs. Over the past decade, The Brian Setzer Orchestra have performed their raucous renditions of Christmas songs on the Christmas at Rockefeller Center Special, The Today Show, Rachael Ray, The Tonight Show and Conan O'Brien, among many others.

This concert follows the summer release of Brian’s first all-instrumental album, Setzer Goes Instru-MENTAL. The set combines six originals and five covers of bluegrass and rockabilly classics that "showcases his impressive talents and the breadth of his playing like never before" (Guitar Aficionado). The New York Post's Dan Aquilante, wrote that it "again shows off how [Setzer's] one of the most overachieving, yet underappreciated and sophisticated, guitarists in music."

Tickets for the Brian Setzer Orchestra’s“Christmas Rocks! Extravaganza”will go on sale Friday, September 30th at 1 PM. They will be available at LiveNation.com, Ticketmaster.com, at select Live Nation and Ticketmaster retail outlets plus via Charge-By-Phone (800.745.3000).

SH-BOOM! From the “marvelous” mind of creator Roger Bean, comes another trip to Springfield where we meet the “Crooning Crabcakes,” the boy group banned from the Springfield High School prom which made it possible for “The Marvelous Wonderettes” to perform there. Now in an era before “American Idol,” and “Star Search,” the guys get one more chance at fame and fortune as Denny and his friend Eugene form a singing group so they can enter and win the local radio contest on Big Whopper Radio and realize their dreams of making it to the big time! With the help of their best friend Wally and their new friend Skip, this is the best quartet of singers since, well, you know who! Trouble comes in the form of Lois, who arrives to help put some polish on the group but who also broke Eugene's heart many years before. As Eugene falls apart, Skip, Wally and Denny fall in love - and hilarity and heartaches ensue! Featuring such classic songs as “Stay” (Just a Little Bit Longer),” “Runaround Sue,” “The Great Pretender,” “Tears On My Pillow,” “Unchained Melody,” “Earth Angel,” “The Glory of Love,” and of course the title song, LIFE COULD BE A DREAM is another musical trip down memory lane that will leave you laughing, singing and cheering - let’s hear it for the boys!

Performances will be 7:30pm on Wednesdays & Thursdays; 8pm on Fridays; 2pm and 8pm on Saturdays; and 2pm on Sundays.

There will be no matinee performance on Saturday, October 29. There will be talk-back sessions following the performances on Wednesday, November 2 & Wednesday, November 16.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show to tour the U.S.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show is unquestionably one of the world's top classic rock tribute acts, and the proof comes from praise from two very notable sources.

Floyd drummer Nick Mason has praised TAPFS as “Very good, probably better than we are,” while the group was even engaged by Floyd guitarist David Gilmour to perform at his 50th birthday celebration!

And soon, United States and Canada-based Floyd fans will be able to catch TAPFS in their full live glory, as they have announced a tour running from October 7th through November 12th.

Comprised of band members Steve Mac (vocals/guitar), Colin Wilson (bass and vocals), Jason Sawford (keyboards), David Domminney Fowler (guitar/vocals), Alex McNamara (vocals), Mike Kidson (saxophone), Paul Bonney (drums), Bianca Glynn (vocals), Emily Lynn (vocals), and Lara Smiles (vocals),TAPFS originally formed in 1988. Over the years, the group has played to wildly enthusiastic audiences worldwide (selling 3 million tickets in the process), and paying tribute to the group that issued such all-time classic albums as 'Dark Side of the Moon, 'Wish You Were Here,' and 'The Wall,' as well as the rock radio standards "Money," "Wish You Were Here," "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" and "Comfortably Numb."

And the upcoming U.S. and Canada tour will prove to be something truly special, as TAPFS has created what promises to be their most ambitious and spectacular show ever, as it will see the debut of a new quadraphonic sound system, and represents (for the first time ever) that a live music production has used 3D stereographic technology. On top of this will be an awe-inspiring Floydian style laser and light show as well as a whole host of inflatables – including a gigantic pink kangaroo!

The Australian Pink Floyd Show continues to rack up accolades, including being described as “Setting the gold standard” and being praised as “The best tribute band in the world” (by the Sunday Times) and
“The living embodiement of a Floyd show. If you love the Floyd, you’ll love this.” (by the Liverpool Echo). Soon, fans will be able to experience the ultimate Pink Floyd experience in North America.

The Naked and Famous to tour

THE NAKED AND FAMOUS (TNAF) are set to launch their latest North American trek on October 6 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto, ON.

Still supporting their UNIVERSAL REPUBLIC RECORDS debut, PASSIVE ME, AGGRESSIVE YOU, the spellbinding New Zealand electro rock machine will undoubtedly bewitch audiences on their 14 date tour supported by buzz acts Chain Gang of 1974 and White Arrows.

It's dark and daring, just like everything the group does.

THE NAKED AND FAMOUS's new single, "Punching in a Dream", follow up to the Alternative Radio Top 10 hit “Young Blood”, was the #1 most added song at Alternative radio.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand group show that they have not been forgotten in their home country despite being away on tour all year. They had already collected the country’s top songwriting prize for “Young Blood” and this week it was announced that TNAF won two technical awards for best production and engineering for Passive Me Aggressive You. The group are finalists in a record-breaking seven more major categories for the New Zealand Music Awards in November.

JuiceheaD to release new album and tour

Power-punk trio JuiceheaD have announced plans to release their new studio album, How to Sail a Sinking Ship, on October 4 via Misfits Records. Fans can check out their boisterous new song “Lorraine” streaming now at Punknews.org: http://www.punknews.org/bands/juicehead.

Formed in 2003, JuiceheaD forged from the ashes of several local punk bands and fused a unique union of skilled playing and solid song writing. The three-piece, which is made up of Rob Vannice (guitar/vocals), Tommy Kloss (bass) and Mike Garelli (drums) quickly became a favorite within their native Chicago’s burgeoning punk scene with the release of their debut album The Devil Made Me Do It. Armed with a hard, aggressive melodic arsenal and thought provoking lyrics, JuiceheaD defines the new breed of American punk rock. Their music is infectious, contagious and packs enough punch to satisfy most old school punk rock fans, while simultaneously delivering a universal sound that any enlightened music fan will truly appreciate.

How to Sail a Sinking Ship features the incredibly catchy single “Rotting from the Inside,” which debuted at #40 at Alternative Specialty Radio Charts with consistent spins on both college and commercial radio nationwide, and “Death of Democracy” which is in heavy rotation on Sirius XM’s Faction channel on a daily basis.

The album also features guest appearances from celebrated cello player Melora Creager (Nirvana, Rasputina) on the punk-goth ballad “Black Roses” and The Punk Pipers (consisting of NYC Firefighters) adding a traditional bagpipe flavor to the melodic track “When I Fall From Grace.”

A Noise Within holds open house at new Pasadena location Oct. 23

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, rolls out the red carpet for the community at large when it hosts a free interactive Open House to introduce the general public to its unique artistry and dazzling permanent new home, a 33,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art venue in Pasadena, on Sunday, October 23, 2011, 1 to 4 pm.

“This is the first public event of any kind in our new home,” say ANW Founders/Artistic Directors Julia Rodriguez-Elliott and Geoff Elliott. “We have had amazing support from the community for A Noise Within’s new theatre, and we’re delighted to open our doors so our friends and neighbors from across the Southland can see this incredible new home for the classics and learn more about our work.”

The Open House, which helps kick off A Noise Within’s milestone 2011-12 Season and 20th Anniversary, features tours of the facility, readings and presentations by the company's resident artists spotlighting the classical masterworks being performed during the season, activities for youngsters and much more. The event reflects ANW's commitment to bringing the classics to the broadest possible audience and to expanding the deep community roots sown during its 19 years in Glendale.

The new theatre, the result of a $13.5 million capital campaign, features substantially more space than the company's Glendale venue, allowing A Noise Within to meet demand for tickets by allowing annual audience capacity to increase from 25,000 to 50,000 people. The company's highly regarded education program will be able to double to 20,000 the number of students served each year. Together, this allows A Noise Within to expand its role as a leader in the presentation and preservation of classical theatre.

The venue is located in the former Stuart Pharmaceutical building, a historic, mid-century modern masterpiece designed by celebrated architect Edward Durell Stone, known for landmark buildings around the country including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and Radio City Music Hall in New York. Constructed in the mid-1950s, the Stuart Pharmaceutical building was listed on the National Register in 1998 and features a striking landscape garden designed by Thomas Church. The completely new three-story theatre – which retains the building's original façade -- features support facilities, offices, rehearsal space, a classroom, considerable storage for costumes, props and scenery and large restrooms. There is plentiful, convenient, free parking in the adjacent Gold Line's Sierra Madre Villa Metro parking structure.

A Noise Within (ANW) is the only year-round classical repertory company in Southern California and one of only a handful in the entire country dedicated solely to producing classical dramatic literature in the repertory tradition of rotating productions with a resident company of professional artists.

A NOISE WITHIN is located on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue at 3352 East Foothill Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107. Free self parking is located in the Sierra Madre Villa Metro parking structure, with entrances on northbound Sierra Madre Villa Avenue or North Halsted Street. The Open House is free, but reservations are required and may be made by calling (626) 356-3127. www.ANoiseWithin.org.

Arroyo Seco paintings exhibit in Pasadena Oct. 16

“Plein Air Paintings of the Arroyo Seco” Exhibition and Sale

The California Art Club and the La Casita Foundation are joining forces
for the fourth time in five years to present a special exhibition and
sale of plein air paintings of the Arroyo Seco. The exhibition will
feature new original artwork by renowned contemporary-traditional
fine artists, who will paint on location during the week prior to the
exhibition to document the environmentally-sensitive Arroyo Seco
and La Casita del Arroyo, a Pasadena Cultural Heritage Landmark
since 1976.

Since Pasadena's charm has long been associated with roses and
the flowers that bloom throughout the city year-round, the paintings
to be featured in this year's event will focus on the flowers and foliage
that surround La Casita and adorn the canyon. This special emphasis
on flowers pays homage to the Pasadena Garden Club's history of
maintaining “The Little House on the Arroyo” and its gardens. It also
allows Club artists to give a nod to the organization's early artists,
who often featured vibrant flower fields in their California landscape
paintings.

Proceeds from the sale of the paintings will benefit the California
Art Club's educational programs and the La Casita Foundation's
mission to conserve the gardens at La Casita.

Location: La Casita del Arroyo
177 S. Arroyo Blvd.
Pasadena, CA 91105

Date: Sunday, October 16, 2011

3 Guitar Heroes tour postponed

Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth and Leslie West have been forced to postpone the 3 Guitar Heroes tour that was set to commence on October 6 in Norfolk, CT, due to insurmountable travel issues. When faced with securing a viable path for West¹s travel while still confined to a wheelchair, the search for a vehicle went on for months, and it has been called off. Last week, West was fitted with a prosthetic leg, but it will take months before he is able to live a normal life with the appendage, and there is no way to tour at this time without the security of the wheelchair he has been confined to post-amputation.

Plans are moving forward to explore restaging this tour in the New Year.

At The Skylines signs with Roadrunner Records

Roadrunner Records announced today the signing of Southern California-based At The Skylines to the label's formidable roster. With a new home at Roadrunner, the six-piece, which features a potent dual guitar and dual vocal attack, has settled into the process of writing its debut album. The band is recording in Sweden with Fredrik Nordstrom, whose resume is filled with names like At the Gates, Bring Me the Horizon, In Flames and Dimmu Borgir. The band will also spend November on tour as part of the “To Write Love On Her Arms Presents: The Children Of Fire Tour,” featuring Oh, Sleeper, Greeley Estates, Ten After Two and Secrets. It is shaping up to be one of the "can't miss" tours of the fall.

At The Skylines, featuring vocalists Chris Shelley and Mark Barela, guitarists Shawn Yates and Billy Barber, bassist Tim Trad and drummer David Angle, formed in 2009, quickly establishing a clear sound and vision. The individual members had been honing their skills for years, as some began playing in their early teens and have ventured into playing many diverse styles over the years. Yates, who serves as the primary writer of music in the band, comes from a background in classical music and jazz. His diverse history informs not only the music he writes for At The Skylines, but also the programming elements that he brings to each song. Additionally, the band boasts not one, but two frontmen in the form of Shelley and Barela. Their vocal styles blend effortlessly, allowing At The Skylines to throw an even bigger sonic punch with their songs.

Barela commented on signing to Roadrunner, saying, "I am thrilled to see all that is to come from our relationship with Roadrunner Records. The opportunity to work with Fredrik Nordstrom on our first album is simply a dream come true!" Yates further elaborated, saying "Fredrik is someone that I have looked up to my entire life when it comes to music. From the bands he has produced to the bands he has played in, he is flawless. I am still taken back by the opportunity that we have been given in working with him on our upcoming album."

Roadrunner A&R rep Andy Serrao commented, “We are really excited to have At The Skylines part of the Roadrunner family. In a short time the band has exploded into the heavy music scene and has won over fans with their great live show and infectious songs. We couldn’t be more excited to have them teamed up with producer Fredrik for their debut record, the end result will no doubt be one of the most crushing records of 2012.”

Shonen Knife to tour in support of new album

Shonen Knife have been the most internationally recognized name in Japanese Rock music since their entrance onto the alternative rock scene in the early 90s seeing them become the indie darlings of hipsters and rock stars alike. 2011 celebrates thirty years since Naoko and the band began releasing albums of their joyous mixture of pop, punk, food and fantasy for the world to enjoy. Since their inception in Osaka in 1981 (featuring Naoko’s sister Atsuko and their friend, bassist/vocalist Michie) to their current lineup featuring members Ritsuko (bass, vocals) and Emi (drums, vocals), Shonen Knife have maintained their rightful place in the ever changing indie rock scene.

In celebration of this milestone, Shonen Knife has announced plans for a North American fall tour kicking off October 20 in Toronto, during which they will be playing fan favorites as well as songs from the recently released, Osaka Ramones, Tribute to the Ramones. The NYC punk forefathers are often cited as one of Shonen Knife’s biggest musical inspirations. A November 18th show at The Bellhouse in Brooklyn, NY will feature a special guest appearance from bassist CJ Ramone, who will join the ladies on stage. The band is also confirmed to perform during CMJ on October 22nd.

The new album, Osaka Ramones gets its title from the trio’s ongoing musical side project, which has made its way in and out of their performing history for decades. This East meets West punk rock combination is now captured in an album recorded and mixed between Osaka and New York over the last year and was co-produced by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls.

“Ramones were my all-time idols since I first heard their music from a radio and rushed to a record shop. This year is the 30th anniversary of Shonen Knife. For celebration, we decided to record a cover album of our favorite band the Ramones. The title is “Osaka Ramones” with our respect. I’m very happy to release an Osaka Ramones project and to recognize their contribution to the evolution of Shonen Knife“
