WHAT: The latest in the Community Conversation series from Facing History and Ourselves will take place at the Directors Guild of America. Moderated by Los Angeles Times and NPR film critic, Kenneth Turan, “Film as a Catalyst for Social Change” will explore the contemporary landscape of film as a vehicle for social change. Panelists will include Edward Zwick, director of Blood Diamond, Glory and the upcoming film Defiance; Diane Weyermann, Executive Vice President Documentary Films at Participant Media, the production company behind An Inconvenient Truth and Darfur Now; and other distinguished guests who are making a difference through their films.
The event will also feature Facing History alumni David Burstein, director of the new nonpartisan documentary “18-in-08.” Burstein, 19, has two objectives for his film: to get his peers involved in the political process and to prove that when young people have ideas that they are truly passionate about, they can bring them to life.
